BRIDGE, SABINE RIVER CROSSING, ORANGE COUNTY, TEXAS
Design of 1.0 mile of approach roadway, entrance and exit ramps
for tourist information center and the turn arounds at both approaches
for this mile long, 120-ft. wide bridge on IH 10. Project includes
preparation of schematic layout, bridge and roadway design, bridge
hydraulics and scour analysis, retaining wall design, traffic control
plans, signing and marking, stormwater pollution prevention plans,
quantities and cost estimates.
BROOKLYN
BRIDGE REHABILITATION, NEW YORK, NEW YORK
Inspection including the Main Span towers, design and preparation
of contract documents necessary for the rehabilitation of the Brooklyn
Bridge's Brooklyn approach, encompassing five (5) overpass structures
and approach roadways founded on fill which is supported by masonry
arches; the Manhattan approach encompassing two (2) overpass structures,
approach roadways and six (6) ramp structures. The major rehabilitation
work will include the replacement of roadway decks, concrete safety
barriers, concrete filled steel grid decks, joints, drainage systems,
lighting systems, striping and signing. Major work includes superstructure
steel, bearings, painting, subst ructure concrete and stone masonry
repairs as well as other rehabilitation items.
Survey
of Manhattan approach roadways, adjacent New York City streets and
approach viaduct for the redesign of Manhattan approaches and rehabilitation
of bridge approach structures.
FUQUA
INTERCHANGE, IH-45 AT FUQUA HOUSTON, TEXAS
This 2700 ft. interchange con sisted of 21-70 ft. prestressed concrete
box beam spans. Approach spans are con nected with a intersection
steel structure 220' long and 150' wide. The west ap proach span
is a three span continuous steel plate curved girder spans of 110'-1
10'-110'. The east approach span is a continuous three-unit steel
plate girder with spans of 122'-122'-122'. The steel girders were
all composite design. The abutments were rectangular, reinforced
concrete section supported with drilled shafts. AIA recommended
use of box beams to reduce construction time and traffic congestion
during construction.
BIENNIAL
INSPECTION OF REGION 11 ARTERIAL BRIDGES, NEW YORK
In-depth inspection, surface and subaqueous of all bridge components
for over 100 bridges as part of the biennial/interim inspection
program. Underwater inspection of se ven bridges using both scuba
and hard hat surface supply diving to inspect for the presence of
scour, evaluate the foundation integrity and confirm the rehabili
tation of structures. Fathometer surveys of the channel bottom were
performed at two of the bridge sites. Preparation of technical reports
discussing the findin gs of the inspections in accordance with NYSDOT
requirements.
REHABILITATION
OF FDR DRIVE VIADUCT, MANHATTAN, NEW YORK
Design of emergency repairs to the outer roadway along the FDR drive
in upper Manhattan as a result of deficiencies uncovered during
the Biennial/Interim inspection.
YORK
STREET BRIDGE STRUCTURE, BROOKLYN, NEW YORK
Design of a single span (80' long) structure for Brooklyn Bridge
approaches over BQE Expressway. Work included 3 staged construction;
design of concrete filled steel grid on plate girders for superstructure;
design of abutment repairs and modifications; and design of utility
relocations, etc.
GEORGE
P. COLEMAN BRIDGE
Design, preparation of plans and specifications for widening of
14 approach spans of Coleman Bridge, for Route 17 over York River,
Virginia. Work included wide ning abutments, modification of solid
piers into hammerheads, design of prestre ssed concrete continuous
spans, and steel plate girder spans. North approach was eight (8)
spans at 90 feet, south approach was six (6) spans (2 @ 65 feet
and 4 @ 90 feet). The bridge was 77-feet in width with the continuous
superstructure being AASHTO, Type IV I-beams and the simple spans
being steel plate girder to accommodate the truss center span. Total
length of bridge is 3750-ft.

OVER DOW BARGE CANAL, BRAZORIA COUNTY, TEXAS
Design of 2000 feet of app roach roadway for this 2000 feet long,
7-lane bridge over the DOW Barge Canal and 2 railroad tracks at
each side of the canal. Project includes preparation of bridge layout,
bridge and roadway design, bridge & roadway hydraulics and scour
analysis, retaining wall design, traffic control plans, signing
and marking, sto rmwater pollution prevention plans, quantities
and cost estimates.
TRIBOROUGH
BRIDGE, NEW YORK, NEW YORK
In-depth engineering inspection of the Approach Spans, Side Spans,
Main Spans and viaduct portion of the Queens Suspensi on Bridge
section, the Bronx Truss Bridge section and the Manhattan Lift Span
section as well as several ramp structures of this East River Bridge.
MANHATTAN
BRIDGE, NEW YORK, NEW YORK
Subaqueous and high level inspection of 2000 foot suspension bridge
in lower Manhattan, New York as part of the New York State Department
of Transportation's Biennial Bridge Inspection Program. In-depth
inspection of both the upper and lower roadway of the Brooklyn Approach,
Side Spans, Main Spans, and the Manhattan Approach sections of the
bridge, including East and West Transit segments and Towers. The
subaqueous inspection of the Brooklyn and Manhattan Towers, using
surface supply hard hat diving consisted of eva luation for the
presence of scour and the foundation integrity of the existing s
tructures as well as preparation of the technical reports discussing
the findings as per NYSDOT requirements.
US
96 BRIDGES, HARDIN COUNTY, SILSBEE, TEXAS
Project involved bridge layout, preliminary design, final
design and construction cost estimate for two bridges for the US
96 Highway widening project. One bridge consisted of two 50-foot
spans of Type C prestressed concrete AASHTO beams and the other
bridge consisted of three 43-foot spans of Type C prestressed concrete
AASHTO beams with a skew of 26 0. Both bridges provide 40'-10"
of roadway carrying two lanes.
IH-45
NORTH HOV LANE CROSSTIMBERS INTERCHANGE, HOUSTON, TEXAS
Total length of ramp is 805-foot. The width of the structure
varies from 35'-10" to 44'-10" and consists of two continuous
steel horizontally curved plate girders with spans o f 75'-93'-93'-75'
and 105'-130'-130'-105'. The width of the structure varied fro m
35'-10" to 42'-8" making the horizontally curved girder
spacing variable. The substructure is reinforced concrete abutment,
has drilled shafts and hammer head piers with cantilevered cap beams
and oval columns. Prepared bridge layout, final construction plans
and construction cost estimate.
HENRY
HUDSON BRIDGE, NEW YORK, NEW YORK
Inspection of all structural components, including the primary
members (fascia, floor beams, stringers, main cables), secondary
members (diaphragms, truss gusset plates, truss lateral bracing
members), deck elements, anchorages, abutments, piers, and utilities
of this major river crossing in upper Manhattan, New York performed
for the Triborough Bridge and Tunnel Authority.
VERRAZANO
BRIDGE BIENNIAL INSPECTION, NEW YORK, NEW YORK
Surface and subaqueous inspection of one of the worlds
longest steel truss suspension bridges which connects the Boroughs
of Brooklyn and Staten Island, New York. The inspection work included
the examination of all bridge and structural components: inspection
of decks, structural framing, suspension cables, towers, and anchorages,
abutments and approach structures, utilities, lighting and communication
equipment. Un wrapping sections of main cables for inspection of
the interior and rewrapping. The underwater inspection consisted
of evaluating for the presence of scour and foundation integrity
of the piers fenders, dolphins retaining walls and submerg ed portions
of the abutments. A fathometer survey of the Narrows between Brooklyn
and Staten Island was also performed. The survey covered an area
5200 feet long by 50 feet wide. The waterway is tidal with flows
up to 2.5 knots and water depths up to 100 feet.
SPENCER
HIGHWAY BRIDGES OVER WILLOW SPRING TRIBUTARY, HOUSTON, TEXAS
Designed and prepared plans, specifications, and estimate associated
with the reconstruct ion of Spencer Highway Design Section III.A.,
east of Willow Spring Bayou to east of Underwood Road. The bridge
was 3-span with prestressed concrete box beams superstructure. The
abutments and bents were reinforced concrete rectangular beams supported
on prestressed concrete piles.

WAYSIDE DRIVE OVER HCFCD DITCH 125-00-000, HOUSTON, TEXAS
Prepared the final plans, specifications and estimate
associated with this bridge. This bridge was a skewed three span
(34.0'-34.0'-34.0') prestressed concrete box beam bridge to conform
with AASHTO HS20-44 loading. The abutments and pier for this structure
were reinforced concrete beams supported by 16 inch square prestressed
concrete piling.
TERHUNE
AVENUE BRIDGE REPLACEMENT, WAYNE, NEW JERSEY
Structural design, boundary survey, topographic survey, preparation
of right-of-way drawings for property takings, utility engineering,
geotechnical testing and boring as well as related engineering services
required for the development of plans, specifications and bid documents
for the replacement of the Terhune Avenue (SR Route 202) Bridge
under the FAUS program.

BRIDGE INSPECTION, NEW YORK
In-depth structural inspection of the substructure, deck and other
structural members to identify deficiencies which may present a
potential safety hazard. Preparation of Structural Inventory and
Appraisal (SI&A) sheets, render recommendations for and prioritize

3 BRIDGE OVER BERRY'S CREEK, NEW JERSEY
Utility engineering for widening of major highway
bridge linking the Meadowlands and carrying Route 3 over Berry 's
Creek in Rutherford and East Rutherford, New Jersey.

NECK BRIDGE BIENNIAL INSPECTION, NEW YORK, NEW YORK
In-depth inspection to evaluate for the presence
of scour and foundation integrity of 36 bridge piers. Surface supply
hard hat diving was used. Project also entailed the perform ance
of a fathometer survey of the river channel and preparation of the
technical report and AUTO-CADD drawings per NYSDOT requirements.
RHODES
ROAD BRIDGE OVER SEALS GULLY, HOUSTON, TEXAS
Prepared the Preliminary Engineering Report,
final plans, specifications, and estimate associated with the replacement
of the existing timber bridge with a three span ( 26.5'-26.5'-26.5'
) prestressed concrete box beam bridge to conform with AASHTO HS20-44
loading. The abutments and pier for this structure were reinforced
concrete beams supported by 16 inch square prestressed concrete
piling. This skewed and superelevated bridge was 36 foot in width
and the project also included approach roadway and drainage improvements.

1960 WISHBONE INTERCHANGE, IH-45 AT FM 1960, HOUSTON, TEXAS
This FM 1960 Wishbone interchange consisted of 20 prestressed
concrete box beam spans of varying lengths and reinforced concrete
deck. The abutments were reinforced concrete rectangular beams with
drilled shafts. Designed the two 200 ft. long steel continuous straddle
bents supported by circular reinforced concrete columns.

BRIDGE INSPECTION, MORRIS & PASSAIC COUNTIES, NJ
In-depth inspection and rating of 17 railroad bridges
in Passaic and Morris Counties, underwater inspection of railroad
culvert over Frank's Creek. Work involved inspection, load rating
analysis, preparation of Inspection Reports, recommendations for
repairs and cost estimates.

EAST RIVER WHARF, NEW YORK, NEW YORK
Underwater inspection for the demolition of existing
wharf, reuse of existing steel "H" pile and timber pile
where feasible, construction of a new wharf.
EAST
COMPLEX CONNECTOR ROAD, SUPER COLLIDER PROJECT, WAXAHACHIE, TEXAS
As a subconsultant to Parsons Brinckerhoff, AIA designed
a seven at 80', span bridge and approaches over Grove Creek to service
the East Complex area of SSC project. The bridge was 44-foot in
width with the superstructure being Type IV AASHTO I beams. The
abutments and bents were reinforced concrete rectangular beams supported
with circular drilled shafts/columns. The entire bridge was designed
and det ailed to TxDOT specifications and the structure was checked
for a 5S4 -140 ton truck loading.
HOBBY
INTERCHANGE, IH-45 AT MONROE, HOUSTON, TEXAS
This 3300 ft. interchange consisted of 15-70 ft. spans
and 10-60 ft. spans of prestressed concrete box beam design connecting
to a 228 ft. by 180 ft. curved composite steel girder and stringer
structure. The intersection structure was all steel design and included
2 000 ft. of retaining wall. The substructure was reinforced concrete
construction. The abutment consisted of a rectangular reinforced
concrete beam supported with drilled shafts and the bents were cantilevered
beam - hammerhead piers, some supported with single columns and
others with two columns. Simply supported reinforced concrete beams
were also used at some bent locations. AIA recommended the use of
box beams to reduce construction time and cost traffic congestion
during construction.
