CONSTRUCTION MANAGEMENT PROJECTS

CLAY ROAD FROM SH 6 TO ELDRIDGE, METRO, HOUSTON, TEXAS

Provided management, technical, supervisory, and construction inspection services required during construction of the project for widening and improving Clay Road from SH6 to Eldridge.  The road was upgraded from 2 lanes to 4 lanes, including the bridge over Langham Creek. Other duties included coordination between client, contractor and engineering disciplines to insure accurate implementation of the design effort during all phases of construction.

 

DENVER HARBOR TRANSIT CENTER, 5TH WARD, METRO, HOUSTON, TEXAS

New construction of three independently suspended covered shelters over new pedestrian waiting platform areas with standing seam metal roofs, soffits, fascia and gutters, lighting, columns and bell bottom piers.  New storm sewer and sanitary sewer system with manholes. New construction of CMU block utility building with separate rooms for electrical and SC&C, standing seam metal roof, soffit, fascia and gutters, beams piers and pads, electrical panels, circuitry panels.  New construction of handicap accessible restrooms with card reader for METRO bus drivers, HVAC, plumbing and electrical wiring CMU block construction, tile work, standing seams metal roof, fascia, soffit and gutter.  New construction of multiple driveways sidewalks, handicap ramps, landscaping, and site work.  Tasks include scheduling, coordinating activities between contractor, lab and METRO, quality control, progress meetings, reviewing shop drawing, checking plans for quantities and errors, providing design assistance as needed, scheduling, and QA/QC.  Worked in conjunction with City Inspectors, permits and permitted plans. 

 

CARVERDALE CITY PARK, CITY OF HOUSTON, TEXAS

New construction of a 6,000 sq. foot community activities center.  Project included construction of new handicap accessible restrooms, offices, kitchen, storage rooms, utility room and large activity room.  New construction consisted of piers and beam form building pad, steel frame construction, CMU blocks with split faced CUM and custom brick work, new HVAC, all new plumbing and electrical construction, and standing seam metal roof.  Construction Management responsibilities included supervising and coordinating subcontractors to maintain compliance with plans and specifications.

 

BELLAIRE QUICKLINE PROJECT - METRO

As resident Engineer, coordinated the Construction of the Bellaire Quickline Project.  This project was a $1.7 million construction of a new bus route.  The project included the construction of a new bus shelters and the installation of an ITS system.  The ITS system includes pavement lighting, warning devices, and a GPS locator system.  Duties included attending progress meetings, preparing project construction files, reviewing submittals, reviewing change orders and design/construction coordination.

 

METRONet PHASE 3B & 4 - METRO

Resident Engineer for the final construction of the METRO Net project.  This project was a $19 million construction of a wireless video and security surveillance system at all Metro Park & Rides.  The work consisted of the installation of all electronic equipment needed to operate the system wireless from the METRO offices; installation of security gates, emergency telephones, and air conditioned enclosed areas.  Duties included attending progress meetings, preparing project construction files, reviewing submittals, reviewing change orders, reviewing contractor’s invoices, and design/construction coordination.

 

MACGREGOR PARK, CITY OF HOUSTON, TEXAS

New building construction and renovation to existing park building. Project included demolishing and remodeling of existing structure with additional handicap facilities.  New construction of handicap accessible restroom, office spaces and kitchen.  Remodel of existing activities room with the addition of sound proofing panels.  Demolish existing HVAC including duct work and replace with high efficiency unit and ducts.  Replace old roof with new weather proofing membrane and Spanish tile.  Project also included new parking, sidewalk, handicap ramps and patio.  Responsible for the supervision of renovations and additions that included site work, underground utility work, landscape, carpentry, millwork, concrete, sidewalks, new building, plaza, and foundation.

 

PARKING GARAGE, LEXINGTON, KENTUCKY

Supervised construction of a 4-level parking garage that included an extensive drainage system enclosed overhead sidewalk, landscaping, and an adjacent 8500-SF concrete paved and curbed parking lot.

 

SAM HOUSTON TOLLWAY (BELTWAY 8) – TxDOT HOUSTON DISTRICT

Performed construction inspection and assisted resident engineer with management duties for 18 months on two sections of BW 8 from Townpark Dr. to Westheimer Rd. (FM 1093) and from Westheimer Rd. (FM 1093) to Buffalo Bayou.  Performed inspection for waterline, storm sewer, inlet, embankment, subgrade, base, concrete pavement, riprap and bridge construction operations.  Sampled embankment and base material for lab testing.  Utilized Volumeter and Troxler Nuclear Density gauge to perform compaction tests on embankment, subgrade and base materials.  Also, performed moisture tests.  On the concrete bridge and concrete pavement and structures, prepared flexural concrete test specimens and performed flexural strength test on the concrete specimens.  Also, tested slump and entrained air throughout the concrete placement.  Inspected and reported on condition of traffic control devices daily.  Assisted in the determination of project time charges. Reviewed change orders and assisted in tracking and monitoring change orders.   Measured all items of work and prepared pay sheets of all work performed for the monthly pay estimates. 

 

SH 36 - TxDOT HOUSTON DISTRICT

Performed construction inspection tasks and served as assistant resident engineer for 18 months for reconstruction from a two-lane rural to a five-lane curb and gutter section roadway.  Limits extended from US 59 to Ave M in Rosenberg, Texas.  Project included construction of waterlines, sanitary sewer lines and sanitary force main lines.  Assisted in the determination of project time charges and the completion of the daily project diary.  Reviewed change orders and assisted in tracking and monitoring change orders. Measured all items of work and prepared pay sheets of all work performed for the monthly pay estimates. 

 

METRO WESTCHASE PARK & RIDE, HOUSTON, TEXAS

Responsible for construction management and inspection services for the construction of the new transit shelter and related facilities, shop drawing review, checking plans for quantities and errors, providing design assistance on an as-needed basis, scheduling, and quality control.

 

METRO CONSTRUCTION OF ADDICKS PARK & RIDE, PHASE I and II EXPANSION, HOUSTON, TEXAS

AIA Project Manager responsible for consulting, coordination, management, technical, supervisory and inspection services.

 

RIDGECREST WATERLINE IMPROVEMENTS, HOUSTON, TEXAS

Performed construction phase service for 31,000 LF of waterline improvements. Completed progress reports, coordinated between City of Houston and contractor, and responded to contractor RFI’s.

 

CONSTRUCTION SUPERVISION FOR HIGHWAY REHABILITATION

Worked as Resident/Site Engineer for 180 Km-long Contract No. 2 of the World Bank-Assisted Project for Rehabilitation of National Highway No. 1. The project included new design and rehabilitation of 120 culverts and small bridges as well as realignment and overlay of the roadway. Consultants were responsible for approval of all contractors’ design/shop drawings.

 

CONSTRUCTION MANAGEMENT FOR THE NEW INDUSTRIAL CITY OF JUBAIL

As the Project Field Engineer for the Transportation Construction Group at Jubail, responsibilities included supervision of all bridge, interchange and airport construction by subcontractors. With a staff of approximately 20 Field Engineers and Inspectors all cost estimates, shop drawings, and equipment/material submittals were reviewed and processed for as many as 35 active highway and site development contracts.

 

CONSTRUCTION MANAGEMENT FOR DFW AIRPORT

As a Senior Construction Engineer CM responsibilities involved runway paving, large diameter caisson foundations and erection of heavy, long span steel trusses and welded plate girders for American Airlines hanger.

 

PREMCOR REFINERY – PORT ARTHUR, TEXAS

As Project /Resident Engineer, coordinated the field activities for 8 remediation sites in a working refinery.  The remediation areas required waste material to be cement stabilized, graded and capped with a soil cover.  This work also involved installation of piping, mechanical fittings, pumps, and related work for a temporary drainage system. These projects required extensive engineering and construction coordination due to the limited knowledge of the underground conditions.  Final construction reports were sent to TNRCC and included detailed information on material testing, construction techniques, and any changes that occurred to the original design.

 

US90A & SH 6 - TxDOT HOUSTON DISTRICT

As Project Engineer, coordinated the construction services for a 3-mile, $35 million urban street reconstruction project. The project consisted of constructing bridges, retaining walls, storm sewer, concrete pavement, utilities and traffic control.  Duties included attending progress meetings, preparing project construction files, submittal review, evaluating changes requested by the contractor, processing change orders, quantity take offs and design/construction coordination. 

 

IH-10 DAIRY ASHFORD TO KIRKWOOD - TxDOT HOUSTON DISTRICT

Project Engineer for Traffic Control for this 2 mile, $83 million freeway reconstruction.  Duties included attending progress meetings, preparing project construction files, submittal review, evaluating changes request by the contractor, processing change orders, quantity take offs and design/construction coordination.

 

FM 1488 FM 2978 to SH 242 - TxDOT HOUSTON DISTRICT

As Project Engineer, coordinated the construction services for a 4-mile, $20 million widening of a non freeway facility. The project consisted of constructing storm sewer, concrete pavement, utilities and traffic control.  Duties included attending progress meetings, preparing project construction files, submittal review, evaluating changes requested by the contractor, processing change orders, quantity take offs and design/construction coordination. 

 

BCIC BUILDING

Supervised construction of 20-story headquarters building for BCIC. Work included foundation, cast-in-place piles, retaining walls, superstructure, construction of ground floor with waffle slabs, auditorium, elevators, plumbing, sanitary sewer, and parking lots with illumination.

 

KARNOFULY PAPER MILLS, Ltd.

Construction Manager for the construction of multi-storied residential buildings and parking areas, approach roadways and bridge. Responsible for oversight of the repair and maintenance of boiler restructuring.

 

BINGLE ROAD OVER COLE CREEK, HOUSTON, TEXAS

Construction management and inspection services for bridge replacement along Bingle Road over Cole Creek, including street reconstruction and signal reconstruction.

 

SOUTH CENTRAL POLICE STATION REPLACEMENT, CITY OF HOUSTON, TEXAS

Performed field inspection of demolition and construction of replacement facilities for the South Central Police Station. 

 

NEW ENGLAND THRUWAY (I-95), WIDENING AND RECONSTRUCTION, NEW ROCHELLE, NEW YORK
Soils and materials testing and construction inspection for the reconstruction and widening of two miles of roadway and five bridge structures along the New England Thruway, for the New York State Thruway Authority. Project entailed the testing of fill both on-site and off-site, concrete testing, asphalt testing, plant inspection, and concrete coring.

 

RECONSTRUCTION OF ALLWOOD ROAD, CLIFTON, NEW JERSEY
Construction Managers and Resident Engineers for the reconstruction of four lane roadway serving the industrial area of Clifton, New Jersey, a $2 million road improvement for NJDOT and Passaic County under the FAUS program.

 

BATTERY PARK CITY, CONTRACT NO. 5 NORTH PARK, NEW YORK, NEW YORK
Construction inspection for the construction of recreational and residential facilities at Battery Park City for the Battery Park City Authority. Project entailed the inspection of all phases of development for the construction of the residential and recreational facilities, children's play area, wading pool, park buildings, and the extension of roadways in lower Manhattan including Chambers Street, Vesey Street and Moore Street as well as the construction of a new pedestrian overpass bridge.

 

IAH AVIATION FUEL COMPLEX, HOUSTON, TEXAS
Responsible for the field inspection associated with the expansion construction of the aviation IAH Fuel Complex. Other duties included coordination between client, contractor and engineering disciplines to ensure accurate implementation of the design effort during all phases of construction.

 

QUEENS MIDTOWN TUNNEL, NEW YORK, NEW YORK
Construction Inspection and support services for the rehabilitation of Queens Midtown Tunnel roadway slab and fresh air sidewall.

 

CROTON/HARMON - METRO NORTH COMMUTER RAILROAD, CROTON FALLS, NEW YORK
Performed Construction Inspection services for the rehabilitation of railroad bridges over the Croton River and the Marble Hill Seawall on the Hudson Line.

 

UNION AVENUE/ BEATTIE'S DAM BRIDGES, WAYNE, TOTOWA AND LITTLE FALLS, NEW JERSEY
Construction Managers for the construction of a 185 ft long steel bridge over the main stem of the Passaic River at Beattie's Dam and a prestressed concrete bridge over the Passaic Valley Water Commission outlet works.

 

NEW YORK CITY BRIDGE NETTING INSPECTION
Construction inspection services for the installation of approximately 461,000 sf. of bridge netting and 598,000 sf. of protective shielding on 47 bridges in Bronx, Kings, Queens, Richmond and New York Counties.

 

BULK SALT STORAGE SHED, WEST MILFORD, NEW JERSEY
Soils testing, geotechnical engineering and construction management and inspection of structural repairs to Passaic County bulk salt storage facility.

 

NEW PASSAIC COUNTY COURTHOUSE, PATERSON, NEW JERSEY
Design of roof replacement and reconstruction of the plaza deck, construction management and construction inspection for major repairs totaling over $1 million at the new county Courthouse.

 

HACKENSACK MEDICAL CENTER, HACKENSACK, NEW JERSEY
Seismic monitoring and pre-blast inspection of addition to major hospital facilities in Hackensack. Included working with physicians and surgeons to determine potential impact of blasting upon operating room facilities if surgery was in progress.

 

T. C. JESTER ROAD, HOUSTON, TEXAS
Responsible for the field inspection for one mile of City of Houston Standard boulevard concrete curb and gutter roadway and the twin prestressed concrete bridges. Other duties included coordination between client, contractor and engineering disciplines to ensure accurate implementation of the design effort during all phases of construction.

 

HARTZ MOUNTAIN PRE-BLAST INSPECTIONS, NORTH BERGEN, NEW JERSEY
Structural inspection of all buildings within a 500 foot radius of blasting site for construction of new building in North Bergen.

 

TAPPAN ZEE BRIDGE, ROCKLAND COUNTY, NEW YORK
Construction inspection for widening and improvements to the Tappan Zee Bridge and approaches in Nyack, New York.

 

WEST OREM ROAD, HOUSTON, TEXAS
Responsible for the field inspection for City of Houston Standard boulevard concrete curb and gutter roadway, sanitary sewer line, construction of new sanitary lift station, and 250-foot-span prestressed concrete bridge. Other duties included coordination between client, contractor and engineering disciplines to ensure accurate implementation of the design effort during all phases of construction.

 

PHASE I RECONSTRUCTION OF BISSONNET STREET, HOUSTON, TEXAS
Inspection of Bissonnet Phase I Reconstruction including roadway preparation, paving and subgrades, water, and storm sewer lines. Coordinated construction and inspection matters with Contractor.

 

ROGERDALE ROAD, HOUSTON, TEXAS
Responsible for the field inspection for 0.5 mile of City of Houston Standard boulevard concrete curb and gutter roadway. This project also included sidewalks, signalization, traffic control, storm sewer, and water mains (16", 36" and 48"). Other duties included coordination between client, contractor and engineering disciplines to ensure accurate implementation of the design effort during all phases of construction.

 

SAVANNAH PLACE, HOUSTON, TEXAS
Supervised the Inspectors associated with the construction of Savannah Place, Phase 2, 70 unit apartment complex. Recorded contractor's progress, managed the field inspectors, inspected to ensure conformity with plans and specifications. Other duties included verification/approval of contractor's invoices, progress payments, evaluated claims, verified progress and its reflection upon the schedule.

 

RENOVATIONS/IMPROVEMENTS OF PARKS TO STANDARDS PROGRAM, HOUSTON, TEXAS
Supervision of contractor's compliance for performance of renovations, improvements and reconstruction of eleven parks in the Houston area according to the contract plans and specifications to standardize facilities. Provisions within the parks included soccer and baseball fields, concession structures, basketball courts, tennis courts, playgrounds and equipment, picnic shelters and equipment, restrooms, drinking fountains, and all handicap accessibility requirements. Work involved demolition and replacement or renovation, back slope, water, storm sewer and sanitary sewer, sidewalks, asphalt trails, parking lot pavement and lighting.

 

BATTERY PARK CITY CONTRACT No. 4 EAST RESIDENTIAL AREA, NEW YORK, NEW YORK
Construction inspection for utility installations at major waterfront development facility in lower Manhattan.

 

OAKWOOD BEACH SEWER, STATEN ISLAND, NEW YORK
Performed check surveys to determine the alignment and verify the elevations along 2-1/2 miles of interceptor sewer tunnels with depths exceeding 100 feet.

 

CONSTRUCTION INSPECTION SERVICES, WOODROW WILSON BRIDGE REHAB, ALEXANDRIA, VA

Construction inspection services that included the repairs to the 222 ft long bascule span – lock mechanism, counterweights, end dam beams, bearings, inspection walkway, pinion supports, repairs to pier caps and steel framing for the approach spans, and miscellaneous steel repairs. Work included night shifts and MPT for heaviest traffic volumes in the nation.
