AIA's experience in the area of
Highway Designs ranges from the design of local intersection improvements
through the design of the new/reconstruction of streets and arterials up to
the design of the new/reconstruction of an urban Interstate Highway. Tasks
performed include: assessment of existing conditions and needs; collection of
traffic and accident data; evaluation of roadway geometric with respect to
AASHTO criteria; determination of substandard and non-standard features;
development of alternatives including feasibility studies; preparation of
preliminary and final plans and contract documents; development of complex
maintenance and protection of traffic plans to maximize traffic flow during
construction.
